The Beaver Papers: The Story of the Lost Season
Published in Paperback by Crown Pub (December, 1984)
Authors: Will Jacobs and Gerard Jones

"And Thus Spake Beaver"
In an attempt to save "Leave It To Beaver" from going off the air in 1963, famous authors submit scripts hoping their influence will persuade the network from dumping the show. Scripts include "Lady Cleaver's Beaver" by D. H. Lawrence, "Beavermorphosis" by Franz Kafka (where Theodore actually transforms into a giant beaver), and my personal favorite "And Thus Spake Beaver" by Nietzche ... "And Beaver descended alone from the house encountering no one, and all at once there stood before him Larry Mondello who bit into an apple. And thus spake Beaver unto Larry Mondello, 'Shared cookies make a friend, not getting in trouble together', and he punched Larry Mondello in the stomach." If you love the Beave and love Literary Parodies, you'll love this book.

One of the funniest books ever
Wow -- it's nice to see that there are other people out there who have read this book and loved it as much as I did. I bought the book when it first came out in 1985 and I was in college. I almost peed my pants reading it in the bookstore, so I figured I'd better buy it before they threw me out. I still have it on my shelf, and it's provided countless hours of amusement ever since. About the only books I would consider funnier than this one are George Ade's "Fables in Slang" and "More Fables in Slang", which are sadly almost unknown today. They should really reprint this, because it's as hilarious today as it was almost 15 years ago.

Hey, Wally, why is our book out of print?
When I first read the Dostoevsky episode ("Hey, Wally, do you think it's OK to kill an old lady?" "I don't know, Beav. We haven't gotten that far in civics."), I was in convulsions. This is the funniest book in the history of Western Civilization, even funnier than "The Lazlo Letters," and that's saying something. That it is out of print is some kind of culture crime.

Conibear Beaver Trapping in Open Water: Master Beaver Trapping Techniques
Published in Paperback by Lost Creek Books (June, 1997)
Author: Wesley Murphey
Average review score:

Well written, plenty of beaver trapping tips and photos.
I have read many beaver trapping books in my days and hundreds of other trapping related books. Wesley attacks problems most often encountered with beaver trappers in the more southern parts of the country. The book is well written, easy to understand and flows very nicely. The photos are clear and represent a very clear idea of the subject matter. Wesley does an outstanding job teaching the reader, whatever his skill may be, how to trap beaver by the hundreds if they are available. The hand drawn diagrams add that personal touch and they are easy to read. The writing of the book is flowing, easygoing and refreshing after decades of stale old beaver trapping books. Good job Wes! It's a winner!

A very enjoyable, informative book
I greatly enjoyed reading your two books, CONIBEAR BEAVER TRAPPING IN OPEN WATER, and BLACKTAIL DEER HUNTING ADVENTURES. I also look forward to seeing your work in "The Trapper and Predator Caller" magazine. Your work really counterbalances a lot of the anti-hunting and anti-trapping sentiment which is so strong especially here in California.

A very good beaver book!
A very good beaver book. Your methods are very similar to ours

Little Beaver and the Echo

Lovely book, lovely story
We've owned this book since my oldest daughter (who is now 12) was a toddler. It continues to be a family favorite, especially for reading aloud. It's one of the few stories that my 2 year old will listen to all the way through, he especially loves the echo element. This is a lovely story with lovely illustrations and I highly recommend it!

Review for Little Beaver and the Echo
I really enjoyed the story "Little Beaver and the Echo." The story had a very cool and creative story line that made it interesting and fun. The pictures were also really neat. They were very detailed and colorful. The story is about a young beaver who is search for someone accross the lake ,that ends up being his echo. On the way he pickes up a variety of friends. For example, he finds a duck, an otter, and a turtle. This book , in my opinion, was excellent. I highly suggest this to you.

Classic book on friendship -- with cute pictures!
This heart-touching picture book about a beaver's search for a friend isn't just for kids (although my nieces and nephews love it, too!). The story-line is clear and the full-color illustrations are EXCELLENT. Readers will have fun catching little details in the pictures.

Sajo and the beaver people

sajo +the beaver people Life enhancing
I read this as a small boy in a Northern English town and was transported to the Canadian wilds in a tale that was full of grace, nature, wonder and truth. The writing has a timeless eloquence that draws you in to a simple but endearing tale that stays with you for ever. There must be a gap of twenty years since I was last able to read such a book. I would rate it as the the next best to 'Capt. Corelli, etc.' ....which I am glad to say I came across by chance. The flight of Sajo across the land and the city is poetic in its simplicicity and its excitement as I have read anywhere-else.
'nuff said.

A book never to be forgotten
This book tells the story of the friendship - against all odds - between two Native children and two young beavers for whom they care. The story contains all the elements a good book for children should have: excitement, adventure and above all - a deep love for nature and its wild creatures. I was given this book as a girl of 8 (in German!) and read it over and over again. In 50 years I have never forgotten its title or the name of the author, it stands out as one of my all-time favourites. I am now delighted to find that the book is still around and I can give it to my grandchildren!

Perfect, moral, story for any and all children(ages 5-100)
This is a story, while ficticiuos, that is rooted in fact. The author, a famous person who started his writing career about 1929, understood the heart of a child. Thus he depicts, in story form for children, certain moral imperatives required for proper assimulation into any social structure or society. Book was well received in many countries and still is. It is unique in that it is the about "Native peoples", and how they see things and how they relate to nature. For the non native person it offers a glimpse into the culture and sense of justice among original peoples. It is a love story in that it depicts the extent too which two persons will go to help those they love. It is, by it's very nature a story about most boys and girls who have been taught ot care about nature, and one's environment. It is a subtle lesson in fairness and apprecation for all things great and small. It is also about courage and trust which is essential for getting along. A must read for anyone concerned about hope.

The Sky Soldiers
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (May, 2001)
Author: Victor R. Beaver

From a back seat driver
From March, 1967 through February, 1968, I was a crew chief with the 121st Assault Helicopter Company. It was my privilege to serve with Victor Beaver during his first six months in Viet Nam. His book gives a very accurate view of the operations of an Army assault helicopter company working in support of the Viet Namese infantry during that period. His description of life off duty captures the spirit of what we went through, and brings back many old memories and dimly remembered characters for me.
Victor also tells the story of the young men who went through the Warrant Officer Flight Training program in the late 1960's. This is the first time that the true story of this training has ever been told, and if the book told nothing else, it would be an historical treasure for this.
By his artful combination of these stories, along with the travails of transition to the AH1 "Huey Cobra" he has produced a book that is a must read for anyone interested in the history of Army Aviation.
Victor, I salute you.

MSG Donald W. Jackson

The Best historical novel of the helicopter war in Viet Nam
Whether you thought the war was right or wrong, you will not be able to put this book down. Victor Beaver takes the reader on a journey from the early days of flight school, to a breath-taking climax that is so real, you will swear you were there.I highly recommend this book to anyone who is the least bit curious about the feelings of the young aviators who fought so valiantly in the skies of South Viet Nam.

The best ever historical novel of the helicopter war
As a former helicopter gunship pilot during the Viet Nam war, I found this to be by far the best work of it's kind to date. Victor Beaver's style of writing will make you feel like you're part of a class going through flight school. He does not debate whether the war was right or wrong, but rather tells a superb story from the veiw points of several characters. This is a must read book for anyone interested in this part of American history. It is a book that once started, is extremely difficult to put down!

Beaversprite: My Years Building an Animal Sanctuary
Published in Hardcover by Chronicle Books (December, 1977)
Author: Dorothy. Richards
Average review score:

A Must Read For Animal Lovers
A MUST READ FOR ANIMAL LOVERS! "Beaversprite" has boosted my inspiration to continue helping all animal life on this planet. Living only 20 minutes from the site of this sanctuary and being a wildlife rehabilitator I felt as though I was living this beautiful story of someone so very dedicated to the cause of God's other creatures on this earth. Dorothy Richards was a wonderful person with an unconditional love for not only the beavers but for all animals and nature. She has shown the world that one person can make a difference to better this world and right a wrong done to living creatures. This is a very important book for both youngsters and adults. It teaches us to respect animals and nature and to appreciate them. Dorothy Richards demonstrated that humans and animals can co-exist in a beautiful world together and that the animals have a lot to teach us humans! She describes in detail the vast intelligence of the beavers showing us that humans are not the only living creatures on this earth capable of intelligence, love and emotions. This is one of the best books I've read and recommend it for all!

A MUST READ for nature/animal lovers! A rare & true story.
"Beaversprite" changed forever the way I regard beavers. This amazing book describes the life of Dorothy Richards and the beavers who lived in the sanctuary she established around her home at the south end of the Adirondak National Park. The photographs in the book of Mrs. Richards and the beavers are guaranteed to thrill all readers, old and young -- animal lovers or not. Mrs. Richards did not begin life as an animal protector. Rather, it was after agreeing to allow the release of a pair of beavers onto her property, and spending some time watching them, that she realized how complex and fascinating is the life of beavers. Mrs. Richards changed from disinterested observer, to guardian and protector of these critical members of our ecosystem. She established the Beaversprite sanctuary and spent the rest of her life fighting to save beavers from extinction. They were all but gone from the northeastern US due to hunting for their fur, and still struggle to stay alive. This is an important book for youngsters of any age, as well as adults. It teaches children to respect animals and nature. I have given many copies as gifts to children and they have all thrilled to read the story of Mrs. Richards, and to see the pictures of her sitting by the pond with beavers cuddled in her lap. This wonderful book demonstrates that we can learn to co-exist with our animal neighbors. This book should be part of every child's library.

Bruno the Baker
Published in School & Library Binding by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (September, 1997)
Author: Lars Klinting
Average review score:

Wonderful book for beginning readers
This book is great. Young readers will find it easy to follow, and will be enchanted by the story of Bruno and his friend Felix as they bake a birthday cake. Be warned, there is a cake recipe at the end of the book, and your child will most certainly want to try it.

After purchasing this book for my son, I decided to buy two more copies for his classroom library. Besides having a great story and pictures, the hardback book has thick pages that should stand up well to constant readings.

Great book for children with active minds
My 4 year old daughter loves all of the Bruno books but Bruno theBaker is her favorite. Children this age love to learn how to do newthings and the Bruno books give step by step explanations while still being very entertaining. The illustrations are especially adorable. I highly recommend it.

A classic coming of age sitcom
I remember watching "Leave It To Beaver" when I was growing up in the 1960's-It was a well-written show, which looked at life from the perspective of a young boy-In my opinion,it's one of the best sitcoms of all time-Now that it's on the TV Land cable network,I never miss a single episode-Irwyn Applebaum did a fantastic job in putting this book together-Not only do you get classic lines of dialogue, but you get a thorough summary of all 254 episodes-Whether your favorite character was Wally, the Beav,Lumpy,or that meanie Eddie Haskell, you'll have a great time reading this book-Highly recommended for the true Beaver fans.

Very enjoyable for Beaver fans
This is a great book for Leave It to Beaver fans with background info, show quotes and dialog organized by topic, and an episode guide. The characters are described with show details and dialog samples. Reading the episode summaries, I can't help smiling. The author wrote a useful and fun guide to the show.

GREAT!
I live in Germany now and can't get old reruns. This brought back some memories and laughs from the shows I used to watch as a kid. This stuff is classic and doesn't go out of style!

Lily Pond: Four Years With a Family of Beavers
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (October, 1989)
Authors: Hope Ryden and Jane Goodall
Average review score:

Share The Fun
I really didn't have much interest in beavers, but when I was given this book, Lily Pond, I decided to go ahead and read it. I finished it in 2 days, it was phenominal. The way she talked about the beavers was like a sitcom, but at the same time you learned so much. I didn't have to force myself to concentrate, like I normally do with text books, for one second, but the abundance of information I got from this book never fails to amaze me. I have to give Hope Ryden 2 thumbs up for this book. It's one you can't put down no matter how hard you try. I was really sad when it was over.

One of My All-Time Favorite Books
This is a wonderful book by a wonderful naturalist. Follow a beaver family through seasons of plenty and hardship. Ryden weaves a delightful and moving tale while at the same time maintaining her integrity as a keen observer of animal behavior.

Heart rendering look into the world of the Beaver.
An insightful look into the saga of a Beaver family. The lives of this Beaver family comes alive through the eyes of author Hope Ryden. You'll begin to feel you're right there with her as she studies this Beaver family over the course of four years painstaking work. Ms. Ryden does an excellent job of conveying what this family of Beavers is up to and you learn an outstanding amount of information about the natural history of Beavers. You become both attached to Ms. Ryden and the family of beavers, feeling both her joy and pain as you see their lives progress before you. I even shed some tears..it was that good. Thanks Ms. Ryden, for an outstanding piece of nature writing
